Even as a child, Shelley Wood was fascinated with clothing. She learned to sew at a young age and dreamed of creating her own line of clothing. After high school, she put her passion for fashion into practice with a job at Nordstrom in Los Angeles, where she became a personal shopper for many of her customers.
“One of the great things about that job was that it taught me so much about customer service,” Shelley says. “That’s something I’ve been able to use in everything I have done since then.”
Although her dream for designing high fashion clothing never faded, her career path led her first to modeling and television appearances, then eventually opening her own modeling agency. She also pursued her artistic talents as a jewelry designer, artist and painter.
Then, in 2004, she resurrected her original dream, and began making clothing in her basement.
“I sold my clothes on eBay, and was sending out about 20 packages every two weeks to people all over the world,” she recalls. “It didn’t take long before I outgrew my basement and moved into a little shop.”
Today, that “little shop” has evolved into Watercolors High Fashion. The name, an obvious tribute to her creative soul, also inspires her. “I love listening to the sound of water, and use colors to make art, with high fashion being the end result,” she explains.
In addition to Watercolors High Fashion, she has opened Lots 2 Luv + Alterations, a store whose wide selection upholds Shelley’s motto, “Dare to be different!” For her alterations, Shelley relies upon her design expertise to make your existing clothes fit better; you’ll love them even more than you did the day you bought them. And, as the name says, there’s Lots 2 Luv at this store! In addition to alterations, customers return for the selection of casual clothes and accessories for shoppers of all shapes and sizes. (There are even tuxedo rentals for those special days!) This is one store that truly has something for every person and every occasion.
